Schefflera
The Schefflera plant is a species of flowering plant in the family Araliaceae, native to Taiwan. It is an evergreen shrub or small tree growing to 3–9 m (9.8–29.5 ft) tall, with pinnate leaves 20–40 cm (7.9–15.7 in) long, each leaf with seven to eleven leaflets. The flowers are small, white, and borne in umbels 5–10 cm (2.0–3.9 in) in diameter at the ends of the branches; flowering occurs sporadically throughout the year. The fruit is a dark red drupe 5–7 mm (0.20–0.28 in) in diameter.
Schefflera plants are native to tropical and subtropical regions of the world, and they're grown as houseplants in many homes. These beautiful plants can add a touch of the tropics to any room, and they're relatively easy to care for.
It is grown as an ornamental plant in gardens in tropical and subtropical regions and has become naturalized in Hawaii, the Florida Keys, Jamaica, Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, and the Lesser Antilles. It has also escaped cultivation and become an invasive weed in many areas, including New Caledonia, Niue, Samoa, Tonga, and the Society Islands.
The specific epithet honors Johann Conrad Scheffler (1624–1677), a German theologian and scientist who wrote one of the first works on plant histology. It is commonly known by the English names octopus tree, umbrella tree, or parasol tree.
The Schefflera is an easy-to-grow houseplant that can tolerate a wide range of growing conditions. It is important to provide bright, indirect light and keep the soil moist, but not soggy. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between watering. fertilize monthly during the spring and summer with a balanced fertilizer diluted by half. Reduce watering and fertilizing in the fall and winter. The Schefflera can be propagated by rooting stem cuttings in water or soil.

Schefflera is a popular houseplant and has been grown in Europe since the 18th century. It is also used as an ornamental plant in gardens. The species S. actinophylla, which is native to Queensland, Australia, is the most common species grown as a houseplant.
The leaves of Schefflera are usually large and compound, with up to 11 leaflets. The leaf shape is variable, but the leaflets are often oval or rectangular. The leaf margins are serrated or lobed. The flowers are small and white, borne in clusters at the ends of the stems. The fruit is a small, blackberry.
