Rape
Rape is a bright yellow flowering member of the family Brassicaceae (mustard or cabbage family) grown as an oilseed crop throughout Europe, North America, and Asia. A rape plant is one of several closely related species within the genus Brassica, which are known collectively as "canola" in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The Latin word rapere means "to seize" or "to snatch." Rapeseed oil is one of the oldest industrial oils in continuous use. It is refined from the seed, which contains about 45 percent oil.
Edible vegetable oil can be obtained by using a cold-press process; the residue (after pressing) is a high-protein feed supplement. Rape is an important crop in Europe and India and is grown to a lesser extent in North America, China, Japan, and Korea. Each year, the United States produces about 130,000 hectares (ha) (320,000 acres) of rapeseed; in comparison, China's crop is about 20 times greater. Rapeseed is also cultivated for the production of oil for use in vegetable-oil-based soap and as an ingredient in some margarine.
Rapeseed plants grow to 1.2–1.5 m (4–5 ft) high with yellow flowers having four petals, each about 2 cm (0.8 in.) long. The pods are hard and slender, 4 cm to 5 cm (1.6 in.–2 in.) long, containing many small seeds similar in appearance to mustard seeds. Rapeseed is an oilseed crop that is grown widely in the temperate regions of the world.

Rape (Brassica napus, variety napus) bears four-petaled yellow flowers in spikes. Each elongated round pod has a short beak and contains many seeds.
